BUCKLER’S Africa Lodge by BON Hotels – situated six kilometres from the Kruger National Park’s Crocodile Bridge Gate in Mpumalanga – has seen an uptake in bookings, especially from the US and German markets, says Group Sales Director at BON Hotels, Lindi Mthethwa. She told Tourism Update that, prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, the BON group’s leisure lodges were predominantly supported by the international market.
“We have long-standing relationships with our key source market agents and the local DMCs booking the inbound market for us which we have continued to nurture.”According to Mthethwa, this is largely managed by connecting with agents via online or virtual shows with a focus on the forward book for 2022. She highlights that Buckler’s Lodge offers an intimate boutique-style experience from arrival to departure. “The General Manager, Miguel Farinha, insists on personally welcoming his guests. Personalised service stretches even further; from a warm cloth and welcome beverage on arrival to assistance with planning a spa treatment, safari, daily excursions or dining experience,” says Mthethwa. She adds that the lodge is passionate about supporting the local community, so much so that they surprise guests with a special gift, made by a local artist, in their room.
“Perfect for those travelling as a family or group of friends, Buckler’s offers a total of 16 luxury rooms that come standard with a fully equipped kitchenette, spacious en-suite bathroom, air-conditioning, DStv, patio, braai facilities and access to the swimming pool.”Mthethwa says Buckler’s brings new meaning to the term ‘breakfast with a view’. “As guests sip on their morning cuppa, they are likely to see a herd of elephants coming to snack on the marula trees that are located approximately five metres from the lodge deck. If they look closely, they might even spot a lion or two stalking their prey on the banks of the Crocodile River.”
